CAMPUS FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION ACT INTRODUCED IN THE HOUSE AND SENATE

(February 10, 2017) – On January 30th, Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-9) and Senator Robert Menendez (NJ) introduced the Campus Fire Safety Education Act. The legislation (H.R. 746 and S. 246, respectively) would establishes a grant program at the Department of Education to make awards to institutes of higher education for fire prevention and education programs. The legislation was first introduced in response to a deadly fire at Seton Hall University on January 19, 2000. The fire claimed the lives of three students and injured over 50 others.

H.R. 746 has been referred to the House Committee on Education and Workforce. S. 246 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
