33rd Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium and Dinner
On May 22nd and 23rd, approximately 1,200 representatives of our nation’s fire and emergency services traveled to Washington, DC to attend the 33rd Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium and Dinner Program. Hosted by the Congressional Fire Services Institute, the event provided a unique opportunity for the attendees to interact with federal officials and national fire service leaders on a broad range of national issues impacting our nation’s first responders.
The schedule included a two-day seminar program that covered a broad range of timely issues. While many guests attended the seminars, others spent time on Capitol Hill in meetings with their members of Congress to discuss fire service legislation, including pending legislation to reauthorize the AFG and SAFER grant programs. And the schedule also provided opportunities for social interaction to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones.
The theme of this year’s program was “Delivering a United Message.” We increase our political leverage when we speak as a united fire service. As Congress has been deliberating over reauthorization legislation, the national fire organizations have worked in close collaboration delivering a united message. We reminded our attendees to stay the course and deliver the same message we have shared with our legislators over the past year, which they did.
The pictures we have compiled captures the spirit of a united fire and emergency services. They show fire service representatives from every region of the country and every facet of the fire and emergency services — from the career and volunteer service and training academies to the codes and standards organizations and fire service industry. They capture fire service officials being recognized for their leadership during the Dinner program and engaging in discussions with federal leaders.
