Deadlines Approaching for CFSI Leadership Awards: Awards Recognize Leadership for Fire Safety Education and Fire Service-Based EMS

(March 30, 2016) – The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) is still accepting nominations for the Dr. Anne W. Phillips Award for Leadership in Fire Safety Education and the Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS Award.  The nomination deadlines for both awards is April 8th (The original deadline for the EMS award was April 1st but has been extended by a week).

Cosponsored by CFSI and the International Fire Service Training Association at Fire Protection Publications, Oklahoma State University (IFSTA/FPP/OSU), the Dr. Anne W. Phillips Award recognizes individuals for outstanding achievements at the national level in fire safety education.Dr. Phillips was a member of the National Commission on Fire Prevention and Control, a 20-member body appointed by President Richard Nixon to study our nation’s fire problem and make recommendations for reducing the fire losses across the country. The culmination of the Commission’s work was the seminal report, America Burning. As a member of the Commission, Dr. Phillips authored the Minority Report that pushed the Commission to recognize the important role of prevention in reducing fire injury and death.  Click here to access the on-line nomination form.

The Excellence in Fire Service-Based EMS award is jointed sponsored by CFSI and Masimo, a global medical-device technology company that develops and manufactures innovative noninvasive patient monitoring devices.  This award is presented to career, combination and volunteer fire departments for excellence in the delivery of emergency medical services.  Click here to access the on-line nomination form for this award.

The recipients of both awards will be honored on May 5th at the 28th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner.  The Dinner program is part of a two-day event hosted by the Congressional Fire Services institute.  The 2016 National Fire and Emergency Services Symposium and Dinner will bring together fire and emergency leaders from across the country to attend meetings and seminars with federal officials and other fire service leaders to discuss important federal and national issues.
