SENATE DESIGNATING SEPTEMBER

Location: Washington, DC

On Monday, September 17th, the Senate unanimously approved S. Res. 549, designating September as “Campus Fire Safety Month.”  The resolution was introduced by Senator Frank Lautenberg (NJ) and Senator Susan Collins (ME).

Since 2000, at least 152 people have died in campus-related fires.  The resolution urges institutions of higher education to provide educational programs to students throughout the year, as well as to evaluate and ensure living environments both on and off campus are safe and meet applicable fire safety codes.
